Reviewers at The Gadgeteer and owner threads consistently highlight two things: the install is noticeably less painful than Midea's thanks to the pre-assembled kit, and the Dreo app is shockingly good — polished, reliable, fast — where Midea's SmartHome app is the weakest part of that product. The honest caveats: at 42 dB claimed versus Midea's 32 dBA marketing floor, it gives up the outright quiet crown (in practice owners call it very quiet but not inaudible); the brand has a much shorter track record in compressors than in fans, so long-term reliability is an open question; and at $399 street it prices above the Midea 8K it competes with, without the retail footprint — this is mostly an Amazon purchase with all the service implications that carries. As a newer entrant it also missed the 2025 drainage-recall mess entirely, which some buyers will count as its best feature.

The smart stack is genuinely good too — the Dreo app is more polished than Midea's or Whynter's, with scheduling, Alexa and Google, and a slick touch panel. The honest picture: it's a single-hose, non-inverter design, so its 10,000 SACC comes with the usual negative-pressure penalty in extreme heat, and Dreo's own guidance says 300 sq ft is the sweet spot despite the 400 sq ft rating. Owner complaints center on the drainage system needing more attention than the 'drainage-free' marketing implies in humid climates, and occasional thermostat drift. As a newer entrant, long-term reliability is unproven — but early Amazon sentiment is strongly positive, and at its frequent $449 sale price it undercuts the LG while sounding nearly as good.
